Allis Tissue Forceps
Allis forceps are ratcheted, toothed instruments with sharp, interlocking teeth at the tips, designed to grasp firm tissues securely. The teeth provide a strong grip but can cause tissue damage, so they are often used on tissues to be removed or in areas where trauma is not a concern.
Uses: Commonly used to grasp fascia, breast tissue, or bowel tissue during procedures like bowel resection or mastectomy. Also used to stabilize the cervix in gynecological procedures (e.g., intrauterine device insertion).
Sizes:
- Common lengths: 15 cm, 19 cm, or 25 cm, depending on the depth and type of tissue.
- Teeth configuration: Typically 4×5 or 5×6 teeth for secure gripping.
Material: Stainless steel, durable for repeated sterilization.
